Mild, sunny and dry. The Brisbane 2032 Olympics run from 23 July to 8 August, which is the middle of a Brisbane winter. The Bureau of Meteorology’s averages for 1999 to 2026 put July at a 22.0°C daytime top and a 10.5°C overnight low, with 31.1 mm of rain across about four wet days. August is a touch warmer at 23.5°C. For anyone coming from a northern summer, that’s shorts weather at lunch and a jumper by the evening session. The Paralympics, from 24 August to 5 September, run warmer again, heading into spring.

TL;DR

  • July in Brisbane averages 22.0°C by day and 10.5°C at night (Bureau of Meteorology, 1999 to 2026).
  • It’s one of the driest times of year: about four rainy days in July and in August.
  • Evenings are cool. Bring a jumper for night sessions.
  • The Paralympics land in late August and early September, with tops of 23.5°C to 25.7°C.

What does Brisbane’s weather look like month by month during the Games?

Warm days, cool nights and very little rain. These are the Bureau of Meteorology’s long-term averages for the Brisbane city station, the months that cover both the Olympics and the Paralympics.

MonthDay topNight lowRainRainy days
July (Olympics)22.0°C10.5°C31.1 mm4.0
August (Olympics, Paralympics)23.5°C11.1°C34.2 mm3.8
September (Paralympics)25.7°C13.9°C28.6 mm3.7

Compare that with February, Brisbane’s wettest month, at 176.1 mm across nearly ten rainy days. The Games sit in the sweet spot. Rainy days are counted as days with 1 mm or more.

Will it be too cold for evening events?

Not too cold, but cooler than most visitors expect. July is Brisbane’s coldest month, with an average low of 10.5°C. By the time a night session finishes, it’s jumper weather.

The upside is the daytime. Average humidity at 3pm in July is 44 per cent, so it’s dry heat at most, never the sticky summer Brisbane is known for. Good conditions to walk between venues; our venues page has the distances.

What should you pack for Brisbane in July?

Layers. Light clothes for the day, a jumper or light jacket for the evening, sunscreen and a hat.

If you’re heading up the coast between events, the same rule holds. Our guide to things to do in Queensland around the Games covers the trips worth making, and our accommodation guide covers where to stay.
